As a fervent follower on his holiness the Dalai Lama, a Nobel Peace Prize winner who leads his people toward religious freedom and cultural identity, I cannot help but take note of editor Laurence Reisman's attempt to clarify the origins of World Tibet Day ( Press Journal, June 9).
I have had the privilege of working on an Interfaith Forum in Vero Beach with Richard Rosenkranz, an activist in the Tibetan cause. As far as I am concerned, the credit must be given to Rosenkranz for taking the lead in establishing World Tibet Day. He clearly has played an active role in bringing the public's attention to the cause of Tibet.
The Dalai Lama's office made this clear when it was approached for a clarification on this matter. He is World Tibet Day personified.
As a Hindu, I respect every attempt of the Kashi Spiritual Centre to share the varied religious traditions. What I do not respect is its attempt to take credit where it is not due, with special reference to World Tibet Day.
Maybe the bottom line is the need to commemorate World Tibet Day without the narrow perspective of an individual or organization seeking undue recognition.
